Contry Rock Legends: POCO & Pure Prairie League
Fri, 04 May 2012 19:30:00 +0000
POCO and Pure Prairie League personify the combination of vocal harmonies, country instruments and rock and roll rhythms that are known as American Country Rock.
Poco was born from the remaining element of Buffalo Springfield, when co-founders Neil Young and Stephen Stills left the group in 1968. They were off and running in 1969 with the release of their first album “Pickin Up The Pieces”, the only debut album to ever receive a perfect rating from Rolling Stone. The band is best known for its hit records, Crazy Love – Keep On Trying – Call It Love – Good Feeling To Know – Heart of The Night. Current members include Rusty Young, Michael Webb, George Lawrence and Jack Sundrud. Young states, “ it’s been a long ride, and it just keeps getting better!”
Pure Prairie League’s rich history goes back to 1969 in Southern Ohio as a group of young musicians playing cover tunes in local bars. Their breakthrough came in 1972 with the release of their second album “Bustin Out” containing two of their signature hits, “Falling In and Out of Lover” and “Amie.” Today’s PPL contains two original members, Mike Reilly on bass and lead vocals, and John David Call on steel guitar and vocals, along with longtime member Rick Schell on drums, reuniting to treat us to music that sounds as good today as it did when they first performed it. The bands longevity is a testament of the timelessness of the music.
